Heres what I figure

Dude, just relax and dont worry about it. First of all your going with friends, all with rifles Im guessing. Suprise encounters will more than likley be your only chance of having a run in with a griz.
Im my opinion, leave your handgun at home, this will keep you a few pounds under your buddy that your trying to outrun anyway. I know alot of guys who hardly ever see one in the field, let alone having one get close,,,,hell you should be so lucky to see one and probably wont.  Worst case deal,,, you get killed by one and give your wifes new husband hard shoes to fill. Just hearing that her first husband was killed in hand to hand combat with a griz. in Alaska will make him go out and buy enzite, or one of those other big weiner pills just to keep up.  Killed by a griz out in the bush,,,  thats the way a real man goes out anyway. Hand guns are for city slickers. What would Frank Glasser, " Alaska's Wolf Man" say? He'd say carry a rifle and leave the toys at home. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. ;-)
