Yellow flash
Posted by Bigmnt on Dec 06 2005
We had just killed three large goats in one hell of a hole the fog was drifting in and we could not see each other at times.  At the time, one of the billies we killed went # 16 in the record books (B&C).  The largest billy had fallen about five hundred feet in a crevasse.  After several hours of rope gearing it into the goat we retrieved the prize and had to go back to the top of the mountain we had hiked in on.

The weather had lifted some as we made it back to the top of the mountain with all we could carry on our backs and in our hands.  the three of us marched near the crest of what we named pyramid peak.

Leading us in front was a Johnny in his big yellow rubber rain suit.  As Johnny started to round the  top to the crest,  he lost his footing and over he went, with his head and back on the ground, legs frailing over his head in a "C" shape.  The two of us started to laugh until Johnny picked up uncontrollable speed as he was racing towards a 2000 foot drop off.  Shear panic hit us as we could do nothing but watch and pray.  Johnny had now been bounced over onto the seat of his pants, but could do nothing to stop himself. At about fifty feet from the ledge, a small scrub caught him on the inside of the leg and hurled him into a rock pile just to the side of the shoot he was sliding down.  We watched and yelled as we seen Johnny had stopped only a few feet from the ledge.

After thirty minutes of climbing we reached Johnny, who had been knocked unconscious and had some nasty bruises and a gash on his head.  Needles to say we were never more happy to come home alive and with an experience that we will never forget and a full rug mounted goat to look at and reminisce...
