If you think that was bad
Posted by Jim in Delta on Dec 06 2005
Boys get a cup of coffee, sit back and let old dad tell you about the last moose hunting trip I had the honor,,,,? of attending.  Picture the setting, a beautifull day, a peacefull river, a 20' jet boat that burns 12 gal per hour.( Dear God)  After an unsuccessfull/uneventfull trip with the only trouble being that I forgot my sleeping bag which allowed me the chance to clean up the 1/4 mile sandbar of all drift wood to keep warm that long evening. (Note to self, dont change your packing tactics 1 hour before the trip cause your buddy decided to take a different pack. It makes one forget things.) Anyway,, After burning a god awfull amount of gas getting back to the launch, things get interesting.
Challenge #1
How does the average redneck gain access to his pickup at a remote launch after realizing that his keys are locked securly in the truck?  Answer,,, with the high lift jack handle through the side wing window.  ( Friends laughing of course)
Challenge #2
With the boat on the trailer, and the redneck at the wheel of a 3/4 ton suped up with a 383 stroker. What is the odds that mechanical failure will shortly follow the statement" Screw low range, this truck will pull a house"? Yep, with the boat/trailer in the river there sits the rig with the input shaft on the T-case twisted plum off. ( wont mention the fact that with an auto tranny with this type of malfunction park dont work and E- brake didnt either.) this is the sit with foot on the brake and pray phase. This is where the phrase " Dude shut up, Im one mechanical failure away from loosing the whole outfit!!!!!" comes from.
Challenge #3
What are the odds that after the twisted drama of the first 2 troubles, the ridicule of a 4 hour wait for "THE WIFE!!!, yes brothers it was the dreaded pissed wife rescue!!. What are the odds that after switching to your primary family vehicle and putting all your ass, sets on the line and back in the river that the boat now brakes?
Yep,,,it did.
Had to unload the boat to get the other rig out of the river and put the trailer on my last good rig. Got in the boat and pulled back into the river to load.  ( wife was up by the highway,,,,just couldnt watch.)  With sweepers 350 yds from the launch and me in the boat backing down stream.
Challenge #4  How do you get a 115 merc jet out of reverse backing down the tanana toward the sweepers when the reverse bucket decides it wants to jam in reverse???  Yep brothers the signs were in the anus this fine day.  Murphy was in the boat with me. You know Murph,  what can go wrong will?? Well god, is more powerfull than murphy and god decided that he wanted me to live to face the ridicule I still face to this day over this adventure. So to cutting to the chase the shifter unjams a few feet in front of the sweepers and I manage to get the boat and hunting partners home safely.  Ride home with the wife was nice,,,,,,,,thats another story.   What dont kill you makes you stronger.  Dam I love huntin!!!   Jim in Delta
