MEAT DISPOSAL
Posted by CONERSTONE on Dec 07 2005
WE HARVESTED SEVERAL BULL CARIBOU THIS FALL.THE MEAT WAS TOTALLY BROUGHT TO CAMP. WE ENJOYED BACK STRAPS AND TENDERLOINS ALL WEEK. THE BALANCE WAS GIVEN TO ALASKA FOOD BANK THROUGH OUR OUTFITTER.
IT WAS COST PROHIBTED TO SHIP THE BALANCE OF MEAT HOME, BESIDES I WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONLY ONE EATING IT.
MY POINT IS AFTER RETURNING SEVERAL DAYS LATER TO VIEW THE CARCUS, I FOUND AN ARTIC RED FOX IN THE AREA,PROBABLY WAITING TO FEED. THE RAVINS WERE THERE IN FORCE. ALSO A GRIZZELY WAS COMING IN FOR SUPPER. DID THE CARCAS GO TO WASTE? WOULD THE MEAT WE TOOK HAVE GONE TO WASTE? I TRULY DON'T THINK SO..
I DON'T LIKE THE GOVERNMENT TELLING US WE DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO DUE WHAT WE CHOOSE. I CAN UNDERSTAND NOT HUNTING THE DAY YOU FLY. I DEPISE POACHING, BUT WE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE.
THE FOOD CHAIN WAS IN FORCE LONG BEFORE MAN DECIDED WHAT WAS MANDITORY.  MIKE,THANKS FOR THE THOUGHT PROVOKING POST.
