Wanton Waste
Posted by ovis on Dec 07 2005
My best friend's Dad turned us loose when we were twelve to hunt on our own....we had to share one gun.....late in the day one of us crippled a large woodpecker.....the other finished the job.....we didn't know anyone was watching.....Mr. Johnny made us pick up our "kill," pluck it, and clean it.....it was taken to the house baked and we were made to consume same.....it smelled really bad , tasted worse and he stood over us and told us that every scrap would be eaten or he'd tan our hides.....I've never forgotten that.....especially the giblet gravey we had to spoon down.

Wanton waste is an issue that could make or break us as hunters.....hunters viewed as killing for killing's sake will help bring about our downfall.  One other thing that kills me is the non-resident hunter that plans a hunt in AK, kills an animal, and doesn't allow for funds to take the meat home....that, imo, is irresponsible.

Thought provoking thread Michael.
