New hunting partners
Posted by rimfirematt on Dec 07 2005
I read the post below about people backing out on hunts and I decided that I would like to post about hunting with people that you dont know.

Im sure that due to people backing out on hunts, some of us have resorted to the internet looking for a hunting partner so that we can salvage that dream hunt of ours.

I learned the hard way about the importance of going hunting with someone you know and trust. I strongly reccomend to all that are considering partnering up with an internent prospect to get to know them first.

I would suggest, maybe a couple of short hunting trips, prefferably overnight ones, within distance of transportation out of there. Trips to the range. Comparing your communal equipment lists, like food, shelter, camping gear. And in general, socialize as much as possible with the person.

If during these outing you notice "quirks" in the persons personality or if you just simply think this is not someone that I would have fun with then dont go. I got a couple of bad feelings, but decided to ignore them, thinking it was too early to judge a person.

On my expensive first fly out trip, I learned that my parnter was not interested in communication, sharing camp duties, his safety or my own, any oppinions I might have or oppinions of other hunters that we encounterd.

I still managed to bring back a few good memories but for the most part, my first major flyout hunt was not as good as I thought it would be.

Alaska is not the place to bet your life on someone you dont know
