I think guys use the wife card to much. Basically I think it comes down to the partner not saving up his money, being lazy or just plain not interested. The wife excuse just takes the blame off of the guy that backed out.

I use this excuse all the time for telling salesman I cant buy it. For example, gun counter guy hands me a fine english double that I really like but have no practical use for nor the money, "Man, I sure would like this, but, the wife will kill me"< problem solved.

Most of us married our wives when we started hunting and fishing. Wives will let you do what you did when you were dating. If they wont now, but did then, then brother that is grounds for divorce! Woe to the man whose testes are wrapped in pantyhose.
