In reply to your question, regarding the 338WM, there is no cartridge better suited for the quarry you will be hunting. If you do the research on available commerically loaded ammunition, paying close attention to high-velocity loads, I am confident the velocity and energy produced (we are talking in the range of 3900-4200 foot pounds)
would be sufficent for any large or dangerous game North America, or Africa for that matter, would have to offer. There is one consideration in buying a rifle chambered for this caliber, try to find a manufacturer that offers a 26" barrel. It does, contrary to belief, make a significant difference in velocity and thus in return -
energy.
