I am moving to the Kenai area in March 2006 and have a few questions.  First, anyone ever driven from Alaska to the lower 48 in early to mid February?  How feasible is it to try to drive up this time of year?  Any recommendations for ensuring a safe trip?  Alternatively, anyone ever go via the water from Seattle area up?

I will move up in early mid-February and then move my family up during the summer.  Intend to throw a camper top on the back of my truck and pack it with as much as possible--then my folks are going to drive a trailer up in the summer with our furniture and what not.  I have lived in Texas since a child, so also looking for good recommendations on cold weather clothes/boots/rubber boots/etc.

Lastly, besides caribou, what other hunting opportunities exist before summer?
