Routes
Posted by Kurt S on Dec 13 2005
Will,

I have always gone up I-5 along the coast with the exception a trip to Montana and up through Edmonton. No specific reason other than it was closer and during the winter months there is little or no snow until you hit Canada. I went from Phoenix on one trip, over to LA and up 5 from there. Maybe someone else with experience up the middle would have more info.

I did some checking on taking guns through Canada and it looks like you can take rifles and shotguns after filling out the form and paying a fee. See this site for info and forms that you can download, fill out and save time at the border.  http://gocanada.about.com/cs/bordercrossing/a/big_little_guns.htm

I don't have any recommendations on lodging, just haven't stayed anywhere.

One other thing you might take along is an extension cord for plugging in your truck at night. Most places have outlets but not sure on the cords.

You have a good rig for driving and the camper will only help.

Early feb would be my choice as it should be cold and the road "sticky" because of it. Late in Feb you could run into heavy snowstorms which can be problem ie visablity. I took a 72 MGB down in late Feb one year and ran into several heavy snows, it was a challange to say the least. You just never know from one yr to the next so you pretty much pick a date and go with it. You won't have any trouble. The rv dealers run motorhomes up here from all over in that time frame often pulling trailers as well.

Piece of cake and you'll have a blast.

Kurt
