Willing to give it a try-
Posted by Michael Strahan on Dec 21 2005
Mark,

You mentioned the idea of pairing a trophy hunter with a meat hunter and a transporter, but I didn't respond to that.  I must say though that the idea is intriguing.

I have not renewed my guide license lately because, to be quite forthright, I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth it or not.  I've had some bad experiences and life is just too short to put up with the misery.  Therefore, I cannot legally advertise as a guide or represent myself as one until I renew.

That said, I might be interested in such a venture.  I wonder if we could make this a "forum experiment"?  I'll renew my license, then all we need is a hunter, a transporter and a packer/recipient for the meat.  My license will authorize me to hunt GMUs 9, 13, 19, 21 and 23.  I think this would work best in a multiple-species area because most hunters coming to Alaska want take more than one animal.  Moose is usually on the ticket (and would probably be the preference for the recipient anyway).  We'd probably need to consider adding Dall sheep, caribou or either kind of bear as well.

Naturally there will be a lot of logistics to work out and it would have to be structured so the hunter wouldn't see additional costs above what he would normally pay to get the meat out of the field.  We would have to work those details out together.

Anyone out there want to give this a whirl?

-Mike
