funding ADF&G
Posted by twodux on Dec 22 2005
I haven't seen any figures on who funds what Mark, but in this state, where we have all the oil $, it's a crime that the legislature doesn't adequitely fund Fish and Game. That should be one of the basic services the State provides. Whatever money licensing and tags and fees bring in should be considered a bonus. It's essential for properly managing the State's fish and game population. But they all have their pet projects they want to push and I don't think the legislature really gives animals much thought unless it's pushed on them.

My point in the previous post was it frosts me when rich guys come into the State looking for a trophy with no intentions of using the meat and try to make themselves look good by "donating" the meat back to the locals. They impact the local game populations and cause fewer opportunities to hunt for people who live in the area. Not everyone can afford to travel to do their hunting. If they want to trophy hunt, do it with a camera. Of course then they couldn't measure the horns or antlers or skull and keep score in a record book. Hunting isn't about competition.

PS I have no problem with a non-res hunter taking any animal if they intend to use it. I'm not against sharing. I'm against waste and attitudes that are going to be the downfall of hunting.
