Sheep Tips
Posted by Michael Strahan on Dec 27 2005
A while ago I started a thread on bear hunting and now that sheep permit applications are percolating through the system, I thought a thread on sheep tactics might be of use.  So, how about it?  Care to share some of your tips?  Here are some questions to get things started.

1.  Overwhites.  Have you used them?  How did it go?  Were you in plain view of sheep?  How close before they spooked?

2.  Scent management.  Has this been an issue for you?  How did you deal with it?

3.  Glacier crossings.  Do you rope up?  Use crampons?  How do you deal with crevasse risks?

4.  Solo hunts / partner hunts.  Which do you favor and why?  Pros and cons of solo hunting?

5.  Meat / trophy care.  Removing blood from sheep capes?  Keeping meat cool, dry and clean.  Do you salt the cape in spike camp or base camp?  How much salt do you use on a cape?

Well, there's lots more to discuss on this, perhaps this will get us started?

-Mike
