same day caribou
Posted by Mr. Pid on Dec 27 2005
I always understood this hunt to be a "population management" hunt. That's why you're encouraged to shoot cows. I participate every couple of years, when I need meat. If I don't need meat, I don't kill.

The hunting is in trying to locate animals that are accessible from a satisfactory LZ. It's not always as easy as it sounds. Most of my exciting winter hunting memories are airplane related, not hunting related.

One thing I enjoy is that winter Caribou seem less spooky than fall Caribou. You can spend some quality time in very close proximity to literally hundreds of animals. Very, very cool.
