Fair Chase?
Posted by martyv on Dec 29 2005
Two points...first "fair chase".  In my opinion that is just a term used and defined by a bunch of people who can agree on it.  I saw an ad in Guns and Ammo Mag that was extolling "fair chase" hunting.  It featured a photo of a guy with a huge caribou rack on his back, a scoped rifle on a sling and a spotting scope hanging around his neck.  Who was that hunt fair to?  The caribou?  How is it fair...only because he obeyed an arbitrary set of rules.  "Fair Chase" rules make hunting a game like football...you have to play by the rule book and then you are being fair.

I grew up in the bush, eating and harvesting meat and fish in the most efficient means possible.  There was a totally different set of rules,  Only take what you need.  Share with others when you can.  Respect the animals that you kill.  Use of what you kill.

As long as the biologists feel that the herd needs the animals culled, and the people use the meat I have no problem with same day hunting.  I do have a problem with it if they make it a "sport"
