Consider wind and rain
Posted by B_M on Jan 03 2006
The number one (and two) considerations you'll want to make in picking a tent for above treeline are aerodynamics and rain repellancy.  For water, make sure you have a tent with a bathtub floor (or at least a really good footprint) and a rainfly that goes all the way to the ground.  Rainflys that don't stretch out beyond the tent are worthless in Alaska where the rain falls sideways.  As for the wind, I much prefer a tent that is low to the ground over one I can comfortably sit up in.  It's a little less comfortable, but an aerodynamic tent will stand up to a storm much better than a large dome tent.

Personally I have the North Face Starlight, which is similar in design to the Tadpole.  I don't think the current version of the tadpole has the bathtub floors, though.  Take a look at that design, though.  If you point the foot end of the tent into the wind it does really well in the type of weather you're likely to encounter.  The two-man version is pretty tight for two men, but it's doable.  You may want to consider a three-man tent, though, if weight isn't an issue and inside space is.

Sorry I don't have more specific recommendations for you...mine has lasted too long, so I'm out of date!
