WHY???
Posted by Akres on Jan 05 2006
Do wishful caribou hunters have to fly all the way to Kotz now, rather than a thirty minute flight to the Mulchatna area?
Do air taxi's (based in Anch, Fairbanks, Homer, Kenai, Tok, Bettles, etc) have to transport hunter's hundreds of miles from their base of operations?
Does the state limit the number of liquor license's in a given area?
Do locals feel inundated during the hunting season?
Do recent Alaskan Residents(Tier 1) feel as though they are "Second Class Citizens"?
My rationale for answers to these and many other social ills associtated with the Alaskan Lifestyle, is simply put: Population, Good economy, Poor game management, Poor habitat management and VERY Limited access to game.
How these issues are dealt with in the very near future, will define hunting opportunities the following generations will inherit. Sportsmen will never be "heard" until they collectively come together, and in one unified voice, state their position. Too many special interest groups (each wanting special seasons or priveleges) now, subsistence, archery, trophy, meat, sport, commercial and professional hunters. Difficult to appease the masses, isn't it?
