I agree

Rick, I couldn't agree more, but I think it's the atv abuse that also needs to be looked at. Isn't it interesting that the main area where grizz are being targeted for "control" efforts in GMU 20E is exactly in the area that sees the most atv use (abuse). I've said this before, but it bears mentioning again. The objective for the Intensive Management area of 20E is an annual moose harvest by humans of 500-1000 bulls. Right now, about 140 bulls are being taken annually and biologists are saying their biggest management concern is the increasing amount of hunters in the unit, particularly the ones who use atvs and pioneer new trails and make their way into what was once refugia for moose. The sheer amount of hunters (and thus, crowding) we'd need to meet the harvest objectives is mind-boggling. How it makes sense to kill wolves and grizzly bears in order to bring in more hunters (particularly those that use atvs for access in 20E) who will ruin more habitat and pioneer new trails etc, is beyond me.
Predator control so we can have 3,000 hunters in unit 20E every fall instead of what we have now (which is too many) is not my idea of sound wildlife management policy.
Best, Mark
