I'm always amazed how "facts" get started.

The only time I've had problems with expansion is when velocity dropped too low, specifically with longer shots using the X in single shot handguns.  The kind of low velocity I'm talking about is lower than you are likely to experience at ANY responsible range with your rifle.

Quite simply, I was trying to use the X for things it wasn't intended.  I've had the same trouble with bullets from other manufacturers, except those that are lightly constructed or built specifically for single shot handguns.

That doesn't mean all those rifle bulleets aren't terrific when used as intended.

The failure to expand story for the X could possibly have come from an early batch of bullets with a bum alloy, but I doubt it.  I suspect it is more likely a bum rap to cover bum marksmanship.

But there are no myths on the internet, are there?
