Barnes X's...
Posted by Murphy on Feb 02 2006
Olaf,

Yes, I have had several failure to expand, or showed an fmj type exit hole.  This was in the earlier bullets and I believe there have been two changes in them even before the TSX came out to improve the expansion at lower velocity.  The folks I used to hunt with in the lower forty eight won't use them any more because of the reputation that bullet developed with us.  When they fail to expand at all they travel in a curved path, coursing through and can be found butt first sometimes on the same side they entered, curved like a horse shoe.  With impact velocities above 2500 fps the older ones seemed to work ok.  The newer X bullets are said to expand at velocities of 2200 fps.  I still believe the they are less reliable than an A-frame.   Good shootin'.
