Werner Herzog, the documentarian film director, made this movie, not the Grizzly People group which Treadwell started. Herzog is a fine director but in the movie is seemingly sympathetic to Treadwell's "cause". I think this was Herzog's way of showing the group mentality of the people involved in Grizzly People. I got the feeling that behind Herzog's sympathy was a heavy dose of cynicism.

Also, I think there is a big difference between the kind of science Tim Treadwell did compared to even the lowliest of summer interns for ADF&G. The big difference: training. At least an intern has a scientist telling him what the procedure should be for note-taking, data input, etc. And someone with even just a start on a B.S. biology degree will have been steeped in the scientific principal before too many semesters of study went by. Treadwell had none of this.
