Bottom Line
Posted by Bigmnt on Feb 05 2006
Mike.

Let me start out by saying that I was not able to see last nights airing of “Grizzly Man,”and I cannot speak to it’s content.  I do not support Grizzly People or Green Peace or any other environmental group.  Bigmnt is a sportsman and a hunter and a conservationist too name a few titles that might label me.

Let me again make the point that the interactions that Treadwell made with the bears, although dangerous and ill-advised, were on the same interaction level as Goodall and Fossi with chimps and gorillas, yet we hail there observation as credible.  Goodall and Fossi went about there studies from an anthropological position, however when we credit them we do it for their biological findings.

My point is this!  If a person reads Treadwell’s books and views his video’s, aside from all of the rhetoric, there is a lot that can be learned about brown bears of Alaska from the documentation that he has done.  I would dare say that Treadwell  has more footage and time spent with brown bears than any scientific studies that have been conducted private or public.  Do I support Treadwell and the Grizzly Peoples conclusions?  Not one bit!  However I have been fascinated by Treadwell's tenacity and commitment for whatever reasons.  I would like to see ADF&G and or the scientific community go about their research with the same resolve.....Bigmnt
