Treadwell comments
Posted by swampdonkey on Feb 05 2006
Hey folks, I'm new to the forum and what a subject to start off my first reply with. I've read everybodies comments to date on this controversial subject and there's some very interesting comments to say the least. My cousin sent me the "uncensored" Grizzly Man dvd. For those who have NOT seen the dvd but just watched the tv show, please see it before commenting too much (respectfully said). All of you are right in some form or fashion, but one thing that I observed was clear. Treadwell was an untrained yet SELF PROCLAIMED grizzly expert who had escaped his drug and alcohol vices by running to the woods of Alaska. Really, how smart is that? Anybody who has spent time in bear country knows that you need to be clear headed around animals that could eat you up and excreet you with relative ease. I really don't believe that Tim was very clear headed at all, hazy at best. He MUST of been clouded, he thought he was a bear. That's dilusional if I'm not mistaken. He defied the laws of the agencies deliberately and the laws of hanging out around brown bears. He endangered himself and the girl out of pure ignorance/hard headedness (pick one). He played a serious game of brown bear roulette for 10+ (VERY LUCKY) years and it finally caught up with him. I honestly believe that his ignorance bought him ALOT of time. Too bad the gal got drug into it by HIS persistance, especially when she stated her fear and discomfort many times. Sure there's some good footage out of all of this, but that's about it. Scientifically, he didn't prove anything to anybody that biologists or scientists didn't already know. The only bears killed and documented since Katmai became a park, (if I'm not mistaken) were the 2 in his camp. I guess he really protected them didn't he? The poaching he was saving the bears from was also unwarranted. Katmai park (again,to my understanding) has NO records of poaching. Treadwell was a freak who couldn't cut it as an actor, got depressed and misdirected, found drugs and alcohol and needed a way to show the world that he could somehow/someway make it to the big screen. Well, he's got a movie out because of him. Did he succeed? This was just a big mess that I believe only good video came from it, that's it. Respectfully submitted, Swampdonkey...
