X works at long range too!!338/225
Posted by rost495 on Feb 07 2006
Lets drag this to the top again. I get overly tired of folks blaming X bullets.  I"ve shot my fair share over the years, and loaded many more going to Africa and North America everywhere. Without fail I"ve never heard anyone say anything but good about them.

They hold together as a warm 150 out of a 300wtby and kill well even under 50 yards.

On the other hand I have some in a 338 win mag that are 225X and start at appx 2750 fps give or take a bit.  802 yards late I have 2 shots and 2 hits on a caribou and both rounds expanded. Second round taking out the spine.  No recovered bullets.  I'd suspect that the retained velocity of the 225 at 800 yards is a bit on the slow side and they still expanded.

Now I won't call anyone on their own versions of the X failing, its just after watching them over the years, shooting them, having guided on a ranch that had to harvest over 300 whitetails a year, well I have yet to see my first failure.  On the contrary I"ve seen about 3-4 failures(IMHO) from cup and core bullets including the partition.
