[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] gear drop Posted by Patrick G on Feb 08 2006 I once dropped two rafts and camping gear out of a Beaver on Kodiak. Then we landed on a lake about 5 miles away and hiked back to our gear. Then float hunted on out to the sea. Really no problems. Beavers have a hatch behind the seats that the pilot fit a halibut tote with no bottom into - then the gear slid thru without hanging up. He slowed the plane way down and I just pushed it out from an elevation of about 200 feet (or less). We dumped the gear in two passes. Found it all spread out in 100 yard long area. Nothing broken. Had to make sure the gear was packed tight enough to fit out the hole (less than 18 inches I believe). Then got to get back to your gear before the bears have a chance to chew on the rafts!
