I would prefer a mountain valley. I believe there would be less thermal activity on the mountaintop then the valley. Of course all this would have to be weather dependent. I'd have to do a little research, but I haven't had too much problem with thermals since I started jumping up here. As a matter of fact, I did do 2 jumps out in between Knik and Colony Glaciers. 1 in the summer of 94, the other last summer. The jumps were completely uneventful... with the exception of the beautiful view! The only difference is landing on the silt bed of the glacier there is plenty of room for a aircraft to land also. That is how some skydiver's made it back to Wasilla. I did do two jumps out of a helicopter here in Alaska. That might me better yet...then again...that takes away from the thrill of landing where nobody else can. I guess wherever a helo can land, so can I. Hmmmmm...almost takes the fun out of it.
