Lone Ranger?
Posted by Michael Strahan on Feb 09 2006
Dr. Quinn,
I'm willing to be the Lone Ranger on this, but I seriously doubt that I am. Record book 'bou in February? Most of the antlered caribou you'll find out there now are pregnant cows. That might constitute fair chase by some wierd definition of the term, but certainly not in my view.
Some might read this as "my way or the highway". That's unfortunate, and it's equally tragic that we live in a generation where folks would rather focus on their own perceived "rights" than to have anyone even suggest that there might be such a thing as something being wrong. Well, some things ARE wrong. Not because I said so, but simply because they ARE. If we're going to call this "sport hunting", then there's simply no place for same-day airborne. If you're trying to feed yourself, that's another matter. But it sorta raises the question of why someone would spend the better part of a thousand bucks for 250 lbs. of winter caribou meat when they could have a shopping spree at Costco for less money and fill the SUV with more groceries. Is that really a meat hunt, or only a thinly-disguised attempt to satisfy an itchy trigger finger.
I know, I know... "who are you to tell me what I can't do"? I've heard that before and the answer is still the same. I'm just a guy who happens to believe this is wrong. Nothing more.
