We can stop this!
Posted by akmusher on Feb 10 2006
Call / write / e-mail your State Reps!  I spoke with mine today and they want to hear from us.  Many of them think this is an environmentalists vs. hunters issue with Seekins bill on the side of the hunters.  Seekins is trying to act like he speaks for the entire hunting community.  Let your State Reps know that he doesn't.

I live in Fairbanks and hunt regularly off the haul road. I am also an ORV owner and I know this bill is a disaster waiting to happen.  Just take a trip across the Denali Hwy in Sept and you'll get a taste of what is in store for the Dalton.

Seekins says there is no access to this land.  That is a bunch of b.s.!  The waterways are not off limits to motorized vessels and anyone is free to walk/mush/ski in and access everything.  For those of us who can't afford to fly in to find unpeopled hunting areas, the haul road is the next best thing.  Last year we lined a canoe up one of the rivers and didn't see a soul for 8 days.  There are places where ORV's belong and places where they don't belong.  The Dalton is a place where they don't belong.  It's up to us to stop this thing.

The House is extremely busy this year with much bigger fish to fry.  The other angle to address is $.  The Seekins bill does not address who will pay for all of the different management related costs.  Many in the House call themselves "fiscal conservatives."

There is still time.  Let your Reps know what you think!
