I am currently in the military stationed at Ft Wainwright. I heard about this news last night and spent a lot of time talking to people throughout the day about the issue.  Surprisingly, of the dozen or so Soldiers I talked to about this not one of them was happy with the decision to allow the use of vehicles within the corridor.  The overwhelming number of military members I have spoken with about the haul rd over the past couple years love to go up there and hunt because of the challenge of hunting with their bow or making the dreaded 5 mile march out with their rifle. Its the challenge of the hunt and the unique atmosophere that the haul rd brings that draws so many of us up there.  Although 8 of 10 hunters up on the haul rd may be militray members I can almost guarantee you that most of them would not want this area opened up to atv/snow machine use.  Ironically I have heard more support for this issue from my civilian friends that have been long time residents here in Fairbanks.
