beginning list
Posted by Daveintheburbs on Feb 12 2006
1. Yup for several days at a time sheep hunting. Stunk but we lived.( and got the sheep we were chasing)

2. I always carry enough to spend one night. Not in comfort but not close to dieing anyway. Actual location and time of year are obviously major factors.

3. Lot of gear ideas but some favorites of mine:

I always bring an ultralight pad. I sit on it during the day and sleep on it at night. Makes a huge difference.

Tony Russ recommended this one; hand warmer tucked in the small of your back also makes a big difference. Bring a couple

Some way to stay dry. You should have good quality rain gear. At a minimum sleep in it. Better is a silnylon tarp and/or those emergency bivy bags.

A couple of water purifying tabs. I don’t regularly use them but better than nothing and super light.

Enough clothing layers. Put on every stitch.

Food. I had the opportunity to live on two jolly ranchers for two days and have since carried LOTS more.

The list can/will go on but those are some basics.
