Mike et al,

Will leave it for others to comment on camping out overnight sans much of anything...in most cases it basically involves staying up all night and stoking a fire (if you're lucky) and is more an exercise in sleep deprivation and the unending frustration of waiting for daybreak whilst you keep telling yourself over and over again what an idiot you are <grin>. I will note, however, that an open fire at forty below is not very much fun, and nor does it allow you to really survive for very long <grin>.

Siwash comes from the voyageur era, taken from the French word sauvage (for savage). To some, it is considered a racial slur. One of my favorite Jack London short stories is "Siwash." I re-read it looking for a link online:
