Mine was a .308 Winchester.  Like Mike's, it was/is a tack driver and I too used it for deer and elk in Oregon.  In the same part of Oregon I believe.

I still have it and always will.  I carried it on a sheep hunt last year but never got to do any shooting.  I plan on making it my yearly sheep gun.
