go in side by side, i like about 5 yards, or whatever works to still see each other. but first try some of these..

circle the alder patch, sometimes scent will bust him out and will give you a chance to look the place over.

after he goes it...just sit tight he may walk out sometimes the initial moment will wear off and he'll walk out like nothing happened.

NEVER figure he's dead!!! act like you have to finish him, it'll keep your senses sharper thinking it could get sticky.

Soon as you see fur and know its your bear, shoot it again, don't matter if you hit it in the but or guts, just hit it again.

Before you go in after it...wait a while.

If its a big alder patch i leave my buddy on a vantage point where he can see all around it, bears will sneak out if given the chance.

Toss rocks, sticks, snowball, 44 bullets anything usless into there and see what happens.

if he comes at you, trust yourself and let the gun do the talking..don't think, point and shoot and you won't even remember reloading...i promise  you that.

As far as shooting bears over 100 yards, they'll jump in brush from a 30 yards shot just as fast as a 200 yard shot. distance really comes into play on follow up shots, leading a bear is a tricky shot. I'm not a big fan of the BOOMBOOM theory, both guys shooting at once, but iam a big fan of the BOOM    BOOM theory, give the bear about half a second and hit him again and then let the lead rain!

Get as prepared as possible and it'll be the most anticlimatic thing you've ever seen. go into it thinkin' it'll be easy and you'll be wrapping your rear with saran wrap to keep your sleeping bag dry...

have a blast!
