Posted by Gary W. on Feb 21 2006 Never have done a float moose hunt, but have spent considerable time hunting on foot for moose in various terrain. I have spent up to 90 days in the field while guiding sheep, bear, caribou and moose and always wore LaCrosse Big Chief uninsulated hip boots. Not always the preferred footwear in some situations, but on back pack hunts for different species, you cannot afford to carry several choices. Tough on feet for sheep, but hardly ever found a creek that got my feet wet. When not in high brush, you can fold them down from the top a couple of folds and you have close to a knee boot that fits fairly tight around your calf and bottom of knee. The uninsulated version holds moisture, but not nearly as much as insulated. Changing socks regularly is important. Also you can carry a few sheets of newspaper and stuff them into boots each night,Makes a world of difference. I cannot remember ever tearing a hole from brush or rocks. Just dry rot and checking from years of use. My money is on the Big Chief boots. Good luck. Previous: My idea martentrapper Feb 21 2006 Next: Shoes/holes tccak71 Feb 21 2006 Message Thread:
