My first caribou hunt in AK was on the Bering Coast with some Eskimo friends.  As we processed the animals, about five caribou, I was told to leave some meat on the caribou.  I questioned this as it seemed wastefull.  They told me that by leaving some meat, others that followed our trail might be hungry and could find the meat. It kind of made sense to me.  As many of these men wolf hunted and quite often were a long distance from town.
