one cold winter night
Posted by PC on Feb 22 2006
I do not know what the concept of wanton waste was 100 years ago. In February of 1975, I was working with a seismic operation in Alaska and we had a winter camp at Cape Sabine which is south of Point Lay and East of Cape Lisburne. The camp had approximately 30 works with 10 native from Point Hope and Kotzebue, During dinner one cold winter night one of the native workers mention, that last winter (74) he had kill 27 caribou in one day. I ask him how he had gutted and taken care of the meat of that many caribou at 35 below. He said "I only took the meat of 3 caribou", the rest of the caribou the only the legs were taken for mukluks.
