Thanks for the advice.  I will definitely take advantage of any opportunities to shoot the calibers that have been mentioned before I take the plunge and buy one.  Also, the recommendation to find a rifle that "fits" makes sense to me.  As far as that goes, are there any shops in the Anchorage area that folks particularly recommend for help with that?  I've been into quite a few of the local shops recently shopping for a pistol and have formed a few opinions of my own but would be interested in other peoples' preferences.
