Limited experience...
Posted by Michael Strahan on Feb 23 2006
Brian,

I've never laid claim to being a ballistics guy..

My comment on big guys vs little guys and the effects of recoil are not repetition of old wive's tales.  On the contrary, that's been my personal experience.  My first big-game rifle was a Ruger M77 7mm Rem. Mag. that I purchased from a friend who happened to be a "big guy" who was tired of getting beat to death from recoil.  At the time I weighed 145 lbs. soaking wet (six feet tall), so I was the skinny kid I mentioned in my earlier post.  I've never had a problem with recoil with that rifle.  In fact, it's been the best rifle I've ever owned.

Anyway, that's been my limited experience with this.  I've discussed it with others who have had similar experiences.  Makes sense when you think about it.  It takes more energy to push a big guy around.  He's gonna absorb more of that recoil than a little feller.

-Mike
