You mentioned the Barney's pack was lighter. I live in the lower 48 and on the Barney's website I can't find any pack weight information. Do you know how much it weighs? I read through the archives on packs and was about to go with what Texkan recommended, a 6# 5oz 5000in Gregory Shasta pack for a guided sheep hunt in NWT. I am not able to moose hunt regularly so the internal frame light pack made sense in the mountains due to the increased flexibility.
