Gold hunting in the Nelchina Basin at the turn of the last century. Most interesting to me when I was the area biologist for ADFG in Glennallen was the fact that Powell spent 10 consecutive summers there looking for a reported gold ledge but saw only 3 or 4 moose in all those year. It is a real scarce book for which I paid a kings ransom, loaned it to someone who didn't return it, so found 2 other copies for which I paid 2 kings ransoms. No, they aren't for loan, but if whoever you are who borrowed my first copy back in about 1970, I'd really like to have it back. Couple of other favorite stories are O'Connor's A Day in Ram Heaven, Black Bear Wonderland and Big Browns in the Rain, the latter 2 because I've many times trod the same ground O'Connor did on his hunts, even carrying a .375 though I wasn't with Ralph Young.
