Thought I would get him started with some of Remingtons Managed Recoil rounds (115 grainers) and move up from there. My son is 8 and weighs 70lbs. He has been shooting a .22 for a couple years with iron sights and he's deadly with it(head shots on grouse). He shoots both a compound and recurve bow well but I have to get him into something that can do some killing. I am hoping to get him proficient enough to shoot a black bear over bait by this spring. Any thoughts or optinions? The rifle is selling for $425 new in box. I was considering a 243 but in my opinion if I can get cool enough loads for the 270 in the beginning, in the long run it will be a more versatile weapon.I started hunting at an older age so cant rely on past experience as a kid his age. Recoil is my biggest concern as I dont want to scare him. Opinions welcomed Next: Youth Rifle Rooster_AK Mar 01 2006 Message Thread:
