Mark, otherwise known as bushrat, made the post on a thread down below here about ad comms and rural preferance. I assumed that is the post that got Barron to make his post. So I posted for bushrat to better explain how ad comms and our management system works. So far bushrat hasn't responded.
Any alaska resident can hunt moose in unit 23(kotz area) But they have to hunt during the general season, sept 1 to 20, and they have to shoot a 50 or better bull. If you are in unit 23 during the summer period, an alaska res can get a registration permit and then is legal to hunt any bull during that season, aug 1 t oct 31. A non res must apply for and draw a drawing permit to hunt moose in 23. The reason the season is done this way, and the same way in some other areas, is because the moose pop. is down. I believe unit 23 is in a tier 1 situation. If moose harvests are not resticted, and the pop. continues to fall, the unit could end up in a tier 2 hunt. Then you non locals will really be unhappy. So will the locals. Tier 2 is not fun.
If some of you urban area folks are unhappy about the way the state and feds manage game in this state........ain't gonna do any good to cry here. Get together with others who don't like the system and talk to your state and fed reps. Get the laws changed. Ain't easy, but it's the only way things will change.
I bet some of you voted for Tony Knowles back in the 90s..........hahahahaha.
