Russians?
Posted by AlaskaCub on Mar 02 2006
Well I'll tell you that the Russian thing here in Delta is an ongoing problem. It stems all the way from the school systems to the land available to be purchased and the concerns of buying or building a house in what we call Little Moscow. Lets put it this way, these folks are not conservationist. I have seen them with 30 fish stringers coming off of Quartz lake and there isn't a fish in the stringer over 13" and when they head south for Caribou, during subsistence hunts and you see a 15 yeard old Ford Aerostar van plum full of Russians with a homemade trailer dragging on the black top full of Caribou it just makes you want to throw the he!! up. My perception is that they think that everything mother nature creates is owed to them and they will get it while its here and who cares if its not here next week or next year, heck of a conservation policy. I dont know I guess the whole thing just drives me nuts. The Ag land in delta is vast and the moose and Bison roam all over it. I know for a fact that there are remote areas of the Ag Land that a guy could kill anything he wants and never get caught( simply isn't enough enforcement resources to monitor all the land)and these folks know the land I am talking about. I personally have never witnessed these such offenses but based on their mindsets and ideology of wildlife conservation it would only make sense.Plus whos out there roaming the remote AG land after dark? When you dont have jobs and 30 people live in one huge house and they are constantly reproducing what else do you do? You got to feed them somehow! Its just another wonderful idea that the US Government came up with, that once you have jumped in with both feet you cant back out of. Its a lot like the whole deal that took place in Wisconsin a year or so ago. Religous refugees? WHATEVER! God I love how my tax dollars are spent! The new thing for us in Delta is the discussion about Delta being attached to a Borough,I hope it happens, you watch how quick the Russians bail out of Delta when property taxes hit! Cant wait. Some people in our society got it made, TAKE,TAKE, TAKE SOMEMORE, and then TAKE EVEN SOMEMORE, but never give back! What a system we have!
