paper

Everyone has their own experiences with guns in the field and on the paper, my first bear and 8' grizz went down to the tune of a .270 with 140 noslers. worked just fine, the best...no. but what defines the best if the bear is already dead?! my .416 woulda killed it too. dead is dead. most people breath on heavier guns because of the penetration from ALL angles, every shot is different regardless of how much of a "tack driver" your gun is. sometimes things go screwy and you have to clean it up and that might dictate tossing as much lead as fast as you can. when you do need to do that, the more the merrier..hence the bigger 30's and 40's.
you sond will love his .270, and if your not carefull you'll love it to. there are horror storeis behind every gun and most will gladly share them and tell you you did wrong by going small. but just remember that will every bad comment, there are usually 100 good ones. The 270 is a great round and i'd use it on everything alaska has to offer..yes and big brownies. my choice...no...my choice is a .416 that weights about 7lbs, drives nails and shoots 350 grain barnesX as often as i like. But then again, my business is cleaning up othere peoples messes. otherwise, i'd run a .270 or .30-'06. have a blast.
