[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] questions for guides Posted by Sollybug on Mar 04 2006 I gotta say though, I don’t think that communication alone will solve it. In my two guided experiences both came highly recommended. However, in reality the positive one provided good food, hard hunting, great equipment and accommodations and also good deer meat. The bad one there were just few sheep in the area and the guides were sedentary heavy smokers who were just counting the dollar signs. I saw three parties go home with no sheep but that wasn’t the complaint. They told me “the weather wasn’t the greatest, but the guides didn’t even try. They could’ve at least given it some effort.” We had the same experience with beautiful weather. We at least wanted to see some great country and not just sit on our ass and smoke cigarettes like the guide did. And his partner guiding some other clients scared some of the only sheep we saw out of the area. How do you sense laziness and greed from you guide if he is a smooth talker? Some of the most frequent complaints I have heard about guides are bad or broken equipment and laziness. To have a good experience those are the two questions I would ask a former client. What kind of equipment do they have and how hard do the guides work? I would also tell my guide "I want to do a lot of hiking." Previous: Heh Mike!... Jeff L Mar 05 2006 Next: Sollybug...
