Several years ago while hunting in the Denali Highway area the gals spotted a good looking griz on a mountain side. We, two kids and I, made a mad 6 mile dash to the far side of the mountain, worked around to the front side, picked a spot and I started to call. We were running out of light so started back to camp. A few hours later when we got back to camp the gals wanted to know how many bear we shot. We did not see any bears but did have two caribou. They asked about what time we started calling and when we told them we were informed that about that same time there was SEVEN bear working across the front of the hill we were on all coming our way. Guess that it was a good thing that we were running out of light and decided to get out of there. What I have found about calling bears up here is that you do NOT do it alone. One needs to have some one else watch the back door. I have also had good results calling bear in the Hicks Lake area. That is another area that one can see for some distance. We had a 9' blonde griz respond to calling but since it was not open season we could not shoot it. The next spring the same bear was taken and that is how we are sure that it was 9'. At least we believe that it was the same bear because of it color. Previous: Be prepared GunsmithRob Mar 06 2006 Next: check out this video! fullkurl Mar 05 2006 Message Thread:
