3) knowledge of your location, either from maps brought with you or gps unit, so you can accurately get the help right to you.

In the end, if you're talking survival, you're talking life and death scenario, an emergency that calls for immediate evacuation.(Recall the accidental shooting last fall in which the hunter bled out before they could get help) Everything else is just knowing how to camp and stay warm, dry, etc. And every hunter should be skilled in that regard prior to coming to Alaska to begin with. Buy or rent the phone if you're going remote---it can't hurt anything but your pocketbook and could save your life or the lives of others.
