here's the problem with that argument
Posted by twodux on Mar 05 2006
sdog, the problem with your arguement is that if you live in Anchorage, the government provides you with roads and sewer systems and better schools and gyms. If you live off the main road system, you're ignored by the government because you don't really have a big enough voting block to get most politicians' attention. The big squeaky wheel with all the voters gets the grease.

And if you think prices in the bush are bad now, just imagine if everybody took your advise and moved to Anchorage. No more hubs to fly into, so instead of flying out on a regularly scheduled flight, you'd be flying out in a float plane, think of that cost. And you'd have to remember all the little things because you couldn't buy them out there at a hub city or some little village. You'd have to haul all your food out with you adding to your cost. And you'd best have a sat phone, because you won't have any contact with your transporter. He'll be back in Anchorage or Fairbanks after dropping you off. And plan on most of your meat spoiling as there will be no hub city with refrigeration to get things cooled down on your way back. If you get lost or hurt, you won't have a bunch of locals on four wheelers or snow machines ready to mount a rescue. Your rescue (if any is mounted) will originate in Anchorage or Fairbanks, and if you need immediate hospitalization, tough luck Buster, the neareast hospital or medical help is in (you guessed it) Fairbanks or Anchorage. I guess having people living in the remote areas of our state serves no purpose for you. Yah, we should all move to Anchorage.
