the population booms becuase of the abundance of food source in the areas of the population explosion...That combined with smaller amount of mouths to feed you get a doubling energy stored to use to catch more energy...for example, if you have 10 caribou & 10 wolves, if you cut the wolf population down to 2 breeding pair, that breeding pair will have a litter of pups, & the 10 caribou will grow too, with less predation, that ensures the survival of the litter of wolf pups...& for them to have more pups, & the caribou heard is still growing, faster than the killing rate, that ensures growth for the wolf population, A nice cycle, that is being interferred with by the state...
