I can't answer for Mike, but I share info because hunting and fishing are two of my passions.  I love spending time in the woods and the mountains, as I'm sure the rest of you do.  Why wouldn't I want to share that passion?  During my college years I spent five years as a ski instructor. Yeah, it was originally for the free pass...but it soon became much more than that.  Sharing my passion for the mountains and enabling someone else to experience the same joy and excitement that I get to experience was an awesome thing.  It's the same thing with hunting and fishing.  I almost always ask someone who's not very experienced to join me when I go hunting or fishing.  Why?  Because I want to share the joy!  Yeah, I might lose just a little by bringing someone else along.  This past fall my friend who has only been in AK for two years got to shoot a caribou while I went home empty handed.  Another of my friends monopolized almost all of my time with instruction while we were salmon fishing and I wasn't able to catch my limit.  Was I bothered by this?  Actually, I got way more joy out of the success of my friend than I would have from my own success.

As for sharing info on this forum, I'm not quite as open...  I don't often give specific locations, but if someone e-mails me from here and wants more direct advice, I am usually willing to give it to them.  I compeletely understand the feeling that people should work and gain their own insight into hunting tactics/locations.  One certainly appreciates it more if they take responsibility for their own education (that's the teacher in me talking!)  Nevertheless, I see value in pointing someone in the right direction.  I haven't seen Mike or anyone else telling someone the map coordinates of where they might find a big moose or ram.  What we can do is help people narrow their search and make wise choices when it comes to gear, tactics, etc.  If this increases their chances of enjoying their hunt and therefore experiencing the joy that we're so passionate about...well, I'm all for it!
